Founded by two Syracuse University students, graFighters is an online fighting game that allows users to create a fighter by uploading an image of their hand drawn characters directly from their laptop or mobile device. Users watch as their sketches transform into animated warriors, climbing the ranks as they challenge the drawings of their friends. The game is not played with traditional buttons or combinations but rather with the strategic design and creation of the drawing itself, which ultimately lends itself to a new genre of “creative” gameplay.
graFighters has been under development for the past few months as a part of Syracuse University’s new Student Sandbox program, which placed student start-ups in an incubator at the downtown Syracuse Technology Garden. Under the guidance of several coaches and advisors from around the area, graFighters was voted as the crowd favorite and the most invest able start-up company on Demo Day in August 2009. In addition, the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce named graFighters as one of Central New York’s “Economic Champions”.
